Frequently Asked Questions

What is PicoWay®?

PicoWay® laser is a system that uses a picosecond laser beam with high power and short pulses to transform your skin from the inside out. Working below the skin’s surface while leaving the outer layer intact, PicoWay® creates tiny spaces in the dermis to encourage collagen and elastin production. Emitting less heat than traditional lasers, PicoWay® provides fast results with minimal downtime or recovery needed post-treatment.

While PicoWay® laser was initially reserved for shattering tattoo pigment, this treatment is now the ideal non-invasive option for those who wish to reduce the appearance of scarring, pigmentation, dark spots and fine lines.

How does PicoWay® laser work?

Three times more powerful than a traditional laser, the PicoWay® system delivers ultra-short, picosecond pulses of energy to destroy pigment underneath the skin’s surface, allowing the body to naturally discard the tiny particles through the lymphatic drainage system. Safe for a broad range of skin types and conditions, PicoWay® laser provides a photoacoustic effect instead of a photothermal effect. This means the pulses do not heat the skin, so unwanted side effects, downtime and scarring are no longer issues you need to contend with.

Is PicoWay® laser safe for everyone?

Yes. Whether you have dry, oily or sensitised skin, PicoWay® is safe for a broad range of skin types and conditions. This cutting-edge method can be applied to the face and body and impacts only a fraction of your skin, leaving the healthy cells around the treatment area untouched and unharmed.

PicoWay® laser is perfect for diminishing the appearance of pigmentation, dark spots and active breakouts, rough skin texture and enlarged pores. After just one quick and pain-free PicoWay® laser treatment, you can resume your daily activities as usual.

When you book an appointment at Evolution Laser for PicoWay® laser in Sydney, our team will listen to your concerns and conduct an in-depth skin assessment. Based on these insights, we’ll customise a treatment plan to meet your aesthetic goals.

What are the benefits of PicoWay® laser?

Initially used to destroy tattoo pigment, the advanced PicoWay® laser treatment reduces the appearance of dark spots, fine lines and scarring while simultaneously stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen to reduce signs of ageing.

How long does it take for PicoWay® laser to work?

While visible results appear after just one PicoWay® laser treatment, they’ll continue to develop over time as your body produces more collagen and elastin. For the best outcome, avoid exposure to the sun for two to four weeks post-treatment and continue to apply evolveMD Laser Soothe to help speed up tissue repair.

How many PicoWay® laser treatments are recommended to see results?

Two to five treatments are recommended to see visible results, but results are variable from person to person. PicoWay® Resolve is so gentle it can be used once every 1-3 months to keep your skin looking clear, taut and plump all year round. Tattoo removal requires six to eight treatments with PicoWay® Zoom. This can vary depending on the tattoo.

Is there any downtime?

Our PicoWay® laser in Sydney involves photoacoustic energy rather than photothermal effects (heating), so there is little to no downtime. Immediately after your session, it’s common to experience temporary redness, slight swelling or the appearance of small dark spots in the treated area. These reactions are expected and typically settle within a few hours to a couple of days. Some clients also describe a mild sunburn-like sensation during this period. Your practitioner will guide you through the normal post-treatment responses so you know exactly what to expect.

Is the treatment painful?

PicoWay® Resolve — The laser may feel like little pinpricks to the skin, and there may be mild discomfort, but the treatment doesn’t hurt. A soothing gel is applied immediately after the treatment to calm the skin.

PicoWay® Zoom for tattoo removal — This treatment targets unwanted ink with significantly less discomfort than traditional lasers. Because the laser pulses are much shorter, most clients experience far less pain. If needed, your practitioner can apply a topical numbing product to keep the treatment as comfortable as possible.

What kind of results will I see?

PicoWay® uses different Pico treatments to treat different skin concerns. Clinical studies show 94% improvement in scars for clients. Collagen and elastin is stimulated to smooth and renew skin texture and tone for fine lines. Dark spots, skin discolouration and tattoo removal are all significantly improved.
